Day of Giving Meets Goal

On Friday, August 3rd, the Wayne County Community Foundation held its lst “Day of Giving.” The event was held from 2-7 pm at the Cooperage in Honesdale and “showcased” eleven non-profit agencies servicing the citizens of Wayne County. The following organizations participated: Wayne County YMCA; Wayne County Historical Society; Wayne County Arts Alliance; Wayne County Heroin Prevention Task Force; The Cooperage Project; SEEDS of Wayne County; Dessin Animal Shelter; Habitat for Humanity; Wayne County Library Alliance; Victims Intervention and Lacawac Sanctuary.

The “carnival-like” atmosphere included entertainment, games, prizes, “hand-on” activities for children and a wealth of information provided by the participating organizations.

The Wayne County Community Foundation’s goal was to raise awareness of the outstanding work that these organizations perform. Much of their success is attributed to the many people who volunteer to assist them with their purpose. Also, for the most part, they all depend on donations from the public. The concept of the Day of Giving was to encourage individuals to make donations regardless of the amount to help them with their efforts. The Foundation pledged to match up to $1000 to each group for donations received on that day. This matching of funding was made possible by the Foundation’s Rita Bellamy Fund, a non- restricted fund which the Foundation is using to promote its expansion and outreach.

The Foundation is pleased to announce that all eleven organizations met this $1,000 dollar amount “threshold” and will receive this award.
