Scholarships

The Foundation along with our donor partners is committed to providing scholarships for seniors living in Wayne County.  Starting in 1991, the number and scope of the scholarships continue to grow.  Listed below are the scholarships available for 2017.  Accompanying the list is a brief explanation of the type and amount of the scholarship. Also listed are other eligibility criteria including which schools/seniors are eligible. The Foundation is honored to begin offering 3 new scholarships to Forest City Regional High School students. These scholarships are listed at the end of the list below.

Robert Zabady Scholarship $1000 (1 each)
Jeri Bigart Memorial Scholarship $1500 (2 each)
Robert and Inger Stovall Scholarships: Awarded to H.H.S Seniors $1500 (1 each)
Leon Scudder Scholarships $2000 (10 each)
Wayne County Community Foundation Scholarships $1000 (5 each)
Marilyn & Jerry Swendsen Scholarships: Awarded to H.H.S Seniors $1000 (1 each)
The Earl and Merle Walters and Honesdale Lion’s Club Vision Scholarship  $1000 (1 each)
The Seelyville Union Sunday School Scholarship $500 (1 each)
Luke Rickard Memorial Scholarship: Awarded to H.H.S Seniors $1000 (1 each)
Drs. Philip and Rosita Liu Scholarship $2000 (1 each)
Drs. Betty and Lawrence Caruth Scholarship $1000 (1 each)
Joseph Verola Memorial Scholarship: Awarded to H.H.S Seniors $1000 (1 each)
HHS Friends of Boys Basketball: Awarded to H.H.S Seniors $250 (2 each)
Akers Memorial Scholarship $1000 (1 each)
Wayne/Pike Medical Scholarship
Albert Liperini Memorial Scholarship
Wayne County Bar Association Scholarship $1000 (1 each)
H. Richard Osborne Scholarship $250 (1 each)
Rowe Scholarship: Awarded to H.H.S Seniors $1000 (1 each)
William E. Schwarz Memorial Scholarship $5000 (1 each)
The McAndrew Memorial Scholarship (Forest City Only) $5000 (1 each)
The Joseph and Kathleen Sterchak Scholarship (Forest City Only) $2500 (1 each)
The David M. Cavalieri Memorial Scholarship (Forest City Only) $1000 (1 each)

Application Process: The Scholarship applications can be started by filling out the appropriate form and submitting. Please be advised that although you are submitting your application electronically, there are parts of the application that MUST be submitted through regular mail. Please read the scholarship information carefully. A PDF version is available for downloading at the end of each scholarship forms.

Selection: The Scholarship Committee of the Foundation’s Board of Directors will review all applications making recommendation to the Board for its final approval. Students must be Wayne County residents attending either public or private schools. Selection is based on Academic Achievement and financial need. The Jeri Bigart Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students attending a technical (vocational) school. The Stovall Scholarship is awarded to ‘most academically improved’ Honesdale H.S. Senior. The Swendsen Scholarship is awarded to the highest ranking Honesdale H.S. Senior attending an accredited engineering school. The Earl and Merle Walters and Honesdale Lion’s Club Scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Honesdale High School who is pursuing a degree in Optometry, Ophthalmology, and Special Education Vision Therapy. The scholarship may also support graduate/professional school tuition. The Seelyville Union Sunday School Scholarship is awarded to a graduate of any public or private school graduate residing in Wayne County who will pursue a degree in Theology or who will major in a field that will lead to a missionary vocation.
